Psychotherapy for Adults and Adolescents
I provide individual therapy for adults and adolescents ages 13 and up. My focus is helping people manage anxiety, panic, and perfectionistic behaviors. I also frequently work with people struggling with depression, relationships, grief, life transitions, chronic stress, and existential issues.
I offer in-person appointments from my office in Towson, MD and virtual appointments for all Maryland residents. I accept insurance and am in-network with BlueCross Blueshield, Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Johns Hopkins. I also accept private-pay clients.
Whether you’ve tried therapy before or this is your first time venturing out, and whether you know which problems you want to address or part of the problem is feeling unable to specify it—wherever you happen to be—welcome.
Therapy is hard to summarize. It’s just two people talking to each other, but it varies widely with each client. It can involve exploring the past, planning for the future, recognizing patterns, acquiring knowledge, evaluating beliefs, expressing emotions, regulating the body, and practicing skills. Sometimes it’s drawing distinctions between things which appear similar but are different, like acceptance vs approval, or discomfort vs danger. Sometimes it’s learning how to reduce suffering. Other times it’s how to increase tolerance of it. It’s expressing something meaningful and having it witnessed and understood. It takes many shapes, but at its heart therapy is an exploration of how to make life more livable.
I use a variety of evidence-based practices and draw heavily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Each model has its strengths and weaknesses, so I use them when appropriate but never force adherence. Similarly, I find mindfulness meditation incredibly useful and often incorporate it while acknowledging that for some people, and in some circumstances, it is not the appropriate tool.
